
Matthew Snyder is a seasoned technology and business leader with a 20 year + track record that includes executive and development positions at both Nokia and Sony Corporation. His track-record spans from developing award winning consumer electronic products, program managing mobile device teams to creating new innovative consumer mobile services in music, video, game design, user-interactivity design, search, and location-based social media advertising.
He has been a pioneer in the new emerging areas of mobile search and mobile advertising. He can be quoted to be one of the first individuals to bring the word “mobile” to search globally, and with his latest passions around mobile as the ultimate cross-media platform, he created ADObjects Inc. (Analog traditional media and their evolution in a new media Digital landscape).
Most recently, he was the Head of Strategy and Business Development in Nokia’s Multimedia Business Group, and launched a new form of mobile advertising network exchange called the Nokia Ad Connector. That effort led to the acquisition of Enpocket for the consolidated of Nokia’s advertising efforts. He has collaborated in many mobile industry efforts through organizations such as the MMA (Mobile Marketing Association), IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) and Jupiter Media’s mediabistro.com platform. He is a frequent keynote speaker, conference chair and advisor to many mobile industry events. He has a strong background in the Music Industry and had been part of several Government trade delegations to China and Japan as a mobile music expert.
Just prior, he was General Manager, Nokia Search and built not only the horizontal business strategy of Nokia Mobile Search with global partners such as Yahoo, Microsoft, Google, Baidu, but lead the business effort with ten’s of European, North American and Asian local directory companies mashed-up with search on Nokia Maps with Navteq. These efforts led to the consolidation strategy to acquire Gate5 and for Nokia to take leadership in the location based services space.
He spent 18 years in Japan as a developer, program manager and business strategist in both Sony and Nokia prior to moving to Vancouver, British Columbia. He relocated in order kick-start operations for Nokia’s Games Publishing Unit and to replant back home.
He has a dual-degree in Engineering and Asian Studies from University of Illinois- Urbana/Champaign. He has taught Kabuki Theater, is a casual Sumi-E painter, and a trying Golfer. He swims and practices Yoga in his spare time.
Although, He presently resides in Vancouver and New York with his wife and dog show Champion Boston Terrier “Ryoma” (Rio), he is a true global citizen and spends more then 50% of his time all over the world.
