1,000,000 .CA Domains started at UBC

Looks like the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is going to hit the 1,000,000 mark for .CA domain registrations within the next 24 hours. Congrats!

Most people don't realize that the .CA domain extension was conceived in 1987 by John Demco who at the time was the Computer Facilities Manager at the University of British Columbia. Back in the day, all dot-ca domains were personally administered and registered on a voluntary basis by Demco in his UBC office, faxes stacked to the ceiling. Thanks John - you never know could have happened if you hadn't had the foresight to protect a uniquely Canadian presence on the Web.

For the .CA diehards out there, be sure to take CIRA's One Million Trivia Challenge and if you refer a friend, you'll get some quality CIRA swag.
