Last week we featured Crystal Gibson in this space. Judging by the amount of comments we had, she was our most popular personality to date. In our interview she highlighted Joallore Alon as one of Toronto's top social media stars. So here he is. We hope you enjoy!
During the day Joallore Alon works in the publishing industry. His claim to fame is making celebrities like Pamela Anderson more beautiful in a magazine than in real life! At night, however, he is best known as one of the most connected people in the Toronto social media scene. Joallore can be found at various business meetups and social gatherings hanging with Toronto's social media elite. Joallore can be found online blogging for iBizBook.com and has also helped organize popular events such as TweetNGreet and GREENtuity.
What motivates you to do what you do on a daily basis?
Those who follow me on Twitter (@clickflickca) know my mantra of #ICE: “Interact, Communicate and Engage. It makes Twitter more fun.” I practice this online and offline. I like to engage and learn from others because everyone around me has value and I like to reciprocate it back.
Do you have any success start-up tips for people wanting to create a name for themselves in your industry?
I work in Media/Publishing and the Entertainment industry. I think the key is to differentiate yourself from others or find a niche. This will enable you to stand out from the rest. If you are a student looking to get into the industry, I would suggest a mentorship or interning and always continue to educate and learn once you are in the industry. Volunteering is another key way to introduce yourself to different aspects of a business or industry. It’s all about adaptability; especially in the changing marketplace.
In your opinion why is Toronto a hotbed for cool tech start-ups?
Toronto is one of the most populated cities in Canada. The infrastructure of the city contributes to continued investments which attracts leading companies and professionals especially in technology and social media. The contributions of Social Media as well as Social networking sites help accelerate the process and synergies amongst the Toronto Tech community.
What's your favourite tech toy and social media site and why?
My favourite tech toy is the Iphone with Mophie and Richard Solo battery backups. It’s totally changed the way I communicate and interact with others. I’m always connected wherever I go, technically I’m never offline. As for Social Media sites, I’m truly addicted to Twitter.com because it has open so many opportunities for me to meet many like-minded individuals. It’s enabled me to broaden my network especially with the use of a hashtag I created called #twintro which is basically a Twitter introduction of two users.
Who would you say is one of Toronto's social media/tech stars and why?
Maurice Camacho (@morningmoe). He’s a co-host on Webnation with AmberMac and they talk everything about tech every Wed on local Toronto television. He’s also a tech editor for the CP24 Breakfast, so he’s behind and in front of the cameras all the time.
