$9 Million and a handful of awards for EQO

by Rob Lewis

2007 continues to be a huge year for Vancouver-based EQO. The makers of a mobile VoIP and IM client were named one of Canada's Top Up and Comers by the Branham Group, closed a $9 million second round financing, and were recognized by Red Herring as one of the "100 Most Promising" Companies Driving the Future of Technology. EQO provides consumers with a presence-enabled mobile service that brings the benefits of low cost mobile VoIP, instant messaging and social networking to mass-market mobile handsets and smartphones. EQO lets you chat on AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Google, Jabber, and Skype IM networks as well as place calls over Skype (Skype plug-in required). Their second round of financing was made by existing investors GrowthWorks and BDC Capital, with new investor, Ventures West, taking the lead. EQO plans on using the new money to expand their team and consumer reach.
