A Look at Some Cool New Technology Coming out of Edmonton
Last night, Edmontonians braved icy wind chills of minus 35 degrees Celsius to check out six demos at Edmonton's DemoCamp 17. Some demos are made by existing companies; others are the foundation of future startups; and others still are just cool, casual technologies.
One was Zeel; built by Rocketfuel Games, it's a topical Twitter app that connects you with your interests. Essentially, Zeel is a layer you add to Twitter to more easily follow conversations on specific subjects—think Twitter's saved searches feature but simpler and sleeker.
Another was Slapshot Heroes. Developed by Visimonde slash Rinksters, this iPad app is like an Angry Birds but with pucks and coins. After that came Linelo, a solution for recording and organizing vast quantities of text.
Web Suite Pro, an online invoicing and customer relationship management app, also impressed. The feature-rich app boasts tons of built-in functionality and multi-platform support. But it's got the well-established and wildly popular Freshbooks to contend with.
Then there was a crazy trick shown that grants Canadians access to Pandora, Netflix's U.S. catalog, and other services limited or restricted in Canada. See the magic in action below.
