A Thinking Ape does virtual good with virtual goods
On the weekend of March 26th Vancouver-based game developer A Thinking Ape dedicated the proceeds from one virtual good in their popular Kingdoms At War game to the humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross in Japan.
48 Hours later A Thinking Ape had raised a total of US $33,761.01 (net of Apple's 30% cut) and then matched 50 cents for every dollar raised to cover Apple's fees. A grand total of US $50,641.52 was donated to the Red Cross.
This is an amazing story of generosity from a company that Techvibes has covered in the past.
In March of last year we wrote about their founders fleeing Silicon Valley to startup in Vancouver and earlier this year we updated readers on their progress and estimated that their Kingdoms at War app was bringing in over $500K in monthly revenue.
It's great to see a young Canadian company leverage their very profitable social gaming community into an awesome display of charity.
