Amazon Opens Game Studio, Launches Social Game on Facebook

Posted by Techvibes NewsDesk

Online retail giant Amazon has opened a gaming studio and launched its first title, Living Classics. The title is a social game for Facebook.

"Amazon Game Studios is exactly what it sounds like: a new team at Amazon that’s focused on creating innovative, fun and well-crafted games," the company said online.

"Why is Amazon making social games, you ask? Good question!" the company continues. "We know that many Amazon customers enjoy playing games—including free-to-play social games—and thanks to Amazon's know-how, we believe we can deliver a great, accessible gaming experience that gamers and our customers can play any time."

Outside of online retail, Amazon is the maker of the Kindle e-readers, as well as a tablet, the Kindle Fire. The company has also been rumoured to have a smartphone in the plans. Social gaming doesn't seem to fit with this mobile hardware and software extension, nor with Amazon's web-based retail core, so the game studio launch has caught many off guard.

Living Classics has an extremely high amount of dislikes on YouTube, suggesting mediocre early reception for the studio's first effort.
