Amazon to launch dual-core 7-inch tablet this fall, quad-core 10-inch tablet in 2012

Digitimes has reported that Amazon will be launching a dual-core, 7-inch Android-powered tablet in October, and then a quad-core, 10-inch version in early 2012.

The smaller tablet is expected to compete with high-end e-readers and be a top seller during the holiday season, while the larger tablet will be one of the most powerful such devices ever released and will be aimed to challenge Apple's currently untouchable iPad.

It's expected that Amazon will make major modifications to Amazon, incorporating its massive cloud infrastructure and integrating its popular e-commerce platform.

The 7-inch tablet is expected to have a starting price tag of $249, while the 10-inch might start at $349—well below the iPad at $499 and up.
