Collins Stewart analyst John Vinh claimed in a note to investors this morning that, according to anonymous sources at RIM's manufacturing partner Quanta, the BlackBerry maker has halted PlayBook production and axed future tablet projects.

RIM has quickly responded. The Wall Street Journal recieved an email from RIM that described the rumour as "pure fiction," stating that Research In Motion remains "highly committed to the tablet market."

This is not the first time an analyst has declared the death of RIM's device. An RBC analyst made a similar claim in July and RIM also called the claim "pure fiction."

The PlayBook has recently became available for as much as 50% off at various retailers across the country.
