Android Market Finally Running On BlackBerry PlayBook (May Be Available By 2025!)

Engadget 2011Although hinted at way back in March, the BlackBerry PlayBook has yet to see any of Google’s Android goodness, long rumoured to be in the pipes.  Recently however, screenshots and video of the BlackBerry PlayBook running Android Market, the Android OS’s application store, have surfaced.

What does this mean? Only good things.  The PlayBook is a fantastic little tablet. Size aside, many considered the PlayBook to be the faltering RIM’s ace-in-the-hole.  There are few apps for the PlayBook however, as tablet-capable apps from the already limited BlackBerry App World are few and far between.  With the power to play Android applications, many formatted to scale with tablet size, the PlayBook could re-enter the world as a much stronger competitor to the reigning iPad.

The below video, posted on the CrackBerry forum by user lawguyman, shows a far from polished system.  However, the proof is there, Android Market can run on the BlackBerry PlayBook, and with RIM’s stock price dropping, and people buying iPads faster than a fart in a windstorm, RIM needs to enable this ability ASAP.

Does the ability to run Android apps on the PlayBook change your mind about RIM’s tablet?
