Google Play Catching up to App Store in Volume, but Apple Still Dominates App Revenue

Posted by Techvibes NewsDesk

Google Play now has almost as many apps as Apple's App Store. But the App Store still generates significantly more revenue.

These are the insights of App Annie's latest market index, which reveals that Google Play is gaining apps at a faster rate than the App Store, but that Apple's marketplace still generates nearly three times as much revenue.

However, prior studies have suggested that, due to Google's low standards for app submission, a majority of Android apps are malicious, while Apple has retained a high level of safe and quality apps.

Games remains the most popular category for both downloads and revenue. The US leads the world in both app downloads and revenue generated from apps in the App Store, but Japan actually generates the most revenue for Google Play.
