Apple bringing iMessage to Lion's iChat for free desktop-to-mobile instant messaging

In June, Apple unveiled iMessage, a BBM-like service to be included in the forthcoming iOS 5 update. Described as a unified instant messaging service for iOS devices (read: BBM), it appears that it may also have one extra unique perk: the service will be integrated with OSX Lion's iChat.

Discovered by a developer and first shown to MacRumors, evidence suggests iMessage support is being built into iChat for Lion. If so, this would allow people on Macbooks and iMacs to instantly message iPad and iPhone users (and vise versa) for free.

This would make sense, given that Lion's main draw was bringing in iOS features to OS X.
