Apple to sell more than 80 million iPhones this year, poised to eclipse Nokia for first time
Boom.
That's what former Apple CEO Steve Jobs would say in a keynote pointing out 2011's mobile phone numbers. And why not? The iPhone maker is poised to eclipse Nokia in unit shipments this year, a first-ever, and its growth is among the best when it comes to big names.
Digitimes crafted a chart showing that iPhone sales will surge this year by 82%, from 47.5 million in 2010 to more than 86 million in 2011. Meanwhile, Nokia's 100 millions shipped in 2010 looks to drop over 25% to less than 75 million.

Samsung's growth is high thanks to Google's Android, coming in at nearly 200% to ship 67 million phones, while RIM's numbers look relatively flat, on pace for just a 13% increase in BlackBerrys shipped. (Of course, shipped does not equal sold, as Samsung can attest to. Though with iPhones, it's a sure thing.)
Android also turbocharged smaller manufacturers, like HTC. And the overall "mobile revolution" has seen the likes of ZTE and Huawei experience growth rates up to 500%.
