The Apple Watch: When It Ships, How Much It Costs, and How Long the Battery Will Last

Apple today formally launched the Apple Watch.

The three big questions about the watch: when, how much, and how much battery? Here are the answers.

  • Preorders for the Watch begin April 10. It will ship April 24, including to Canada.
  • The Sport starts at $349. The standard Watch starts at $549. The Edition starts at $10,000 and will be available from “select retailers.”
  • “During a typical day, you can expect up to 18 hours of battery life,” Apple says.

Apple Introduces Smartwatch, But It’s Not Called iWatch

Apple has introduced its first wearable technology, a smartwatch called Apple Watch.

The watch’s main feature is that its interface is not just a tiny iPhone screen; the display is completely customized for the nature of a watch, powered by a “digital” crown that can be used to scroll, zoom, navigate, etc., all without touching or blocking the small screen with one’s fingers.

“An unparalleled level of technological innovation,” says chief designer Jon Ive of the Apple Watch.

“The Apple Watch collection features highly polished stainless steel and space black stainless steel cases,” the company says. “The display is protected by sapphire crystal. And there’s a choice of three different leather bands, a link bracelet, a Milanese loop, and a band made from high-performance fluoroelastomer.”

According to Tim Cook the Apple Watch will be available in early 2015 and the price will start at $349.
