b5media's Splendicity adds social content

Toronto's b5media relaunched their Splendicity beauty portal today and it signals the next phase for the company that has gone from blogs to a blog network to a online media company. Unlike previous attempts to aggregate talented bloggers and topics into one portal, b5media is organizing their beauty related content and writers, promoting them and delivering a unified experience to the readers with the new Splendicity.

The new site promises to showcase great content and great bloggers while allowing visitors to explore and interact on every page. While the site will remain true to its traditional blog roots with familiar tags, comments, and feeds, visitors will no longer have to hunt and peck across 30 blogs in the beauty channel to find relevant, related stories.

This new "social content portal" is a departure from b5media's 300+ blog network model and there is no doubt that the quality of content and level of interaction will improve vastly as b5 is able to focus their attention.

In a pre-launch conversation with CEO Jeremy Wright last week, he assured me that the company's focus remains on helping bloggers succeed and that element remains key in this new model - "The same elements that benefit our bloggers also create a high-quality environment for the reader as we strive to develop editorial consistency and quality".

It's great to see one of North America's leaders in this space adapt to the changing landscape. Look for b5media to apply the same social content model to its Bizzia business portal and Starked entertainment portal next.
