The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel is hosting the Banff Venture Forum this year on September 26 and 27, 2013.

Recognized as one of Canada’s premier company financing events, Banff Venture Forum provides networking opportunities and showcases high technology companies across North America. The event also offers companies a chance to learn from world-class professionals in the investment community.

The Banff Venture Forum has been around since 1999 and has grown significantly since. In 2012 the Forum hosted over 40 venture capital firms, 47 presenting companies, and 350 delegates.

The event features three different types of technology companies, information technology, energy technology and life science technology. Banff Venture Forum assists emerging technology companies by providing them with visibility and quality chances to present to leading private equity and venture capital investors.

Calgary native Rahul Sood will offer some insight into the world of technology, entrepreneurship and investment as the keynote speaker. Sood, the General Manager and Partner of Microsoft Ventures, joined the company in 2011 after spending 18 years working with high-tech startups. Microsoft Ventures is a startup program that combines community evangelism, business acceleration and seed funding to give startups the best opportunities possible in the high-tech industry.

Since teaming up with Microsoft, Sood has created the Bing Fund, led the consolidation of Microsoft’s global startup activities and launched Microsoft Ventures. In addition, he also mentors promising startups, invests in Canadian energy companies and advises the Board of Directors for Razer, a leading gaming company.

Peter S. Crombie, Corporate Director and Past Chairman of RuggedCom Inc. will also be a keynote speaker for the event. Crombie has over 35 years of experience in hi-tech companies in financial, investment and senior executive roles.
