Become a Web Development Superhero

Posted by Techvibes NewsDesk

HTML5 is revolutionizing web development. Together with JavaScript and CSS3, HTML5 enables the creation of sophisticated web applications across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Responding to this need for web developers with HTML5 skills, UBC Continuing Studies is launching the HTML5 Academy this January. Taking place at UBC Robson Square in downtown Vancouver, this new part-time program is geared to those looking to develop more sophisticated websites and web applications, for work or personal interest.

“The future looks bright for individuals who possess this skill set,” explains Phil Stenfors-Hayes, program leader with UBC Continuing Studies. ”The Vancouver region is already hungry for developers who are competent and have experience in this area.”

The HTML5 Academy program consists of five required courses and one elective course. The six hands-on courses teach core HTML5, JavaScript and CSS3 skills but also emphasize key design principles.

Instructors in the program are industry practitioners who have experience in adult education teaching. Upon successful completion of the program, a UBC Award of Achievement is granted.

The six courses within the HTML5 Academy have multiple start dates throughout the year, and the student manages his or her own progression, making for a more personalized learning experience.

While one of the prerequisite courses is already underway, students can still get started with Programming Basics which begins on January 16. Courses in more advanced HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, User Interface Design as well as electives in jQuery, .NET and PHP start from the end of January through to the spring/summer term.
