Bell a repeat offender as it earns title of 'Canada's worst cellphone bill' second year in a row
CBC Marketplace aired its second annual “Canada’s Worst Cellphone Bill" episode, where they asked Canadians for feedback on who has the worst bill in the country.
The episode, which can be watched in full here, shows that Bell wins this year's title. The bill is for $17,148.75. Bell also won this infamous title last year as well; however, recently a Telus bill hit a staggering $37,000 when a Vancouverite used data while roaming in Egypt, easily trumping the Bell bill.
Many consumers are outraged that such bills exist, suggesting that these major carriers freeze accounts or warn consumers via text, email or phone when their bill reaches either a static amount (such as $1,000) or a percentage of their base bill (such as 500 percent).
Easy enough to do. But why would Canada's telecom oligopoly ever cap their profits?
