Bell Canada has agreed to pay a staggering $1,300,000 for violating the national do-not-call list, the Canadian Radiotelevision and Telecommunications Commission announced Monday. The fee is a record amount.

"These are the largest fines ever," said Andrea Rosen, the CRTC's chief telecommunications enforcement officer. "All telemarketers must respect the wishes of Canadians who have registered their telephone number on the National DNCL."

The calls in question were made between January and October of this year; the national do-not-call list was established way back in September 2008.
