Bell Just Axed Hundreds of Employees

Bell Mobility has axed hundreds of positions in one of its Ontario call centres - as many as 500, according to reports from the Star and Canadian Business. One "absolutely appalled" employee was first told her job was safe before being terminated abruptly.

But Bell isn't cutting jobs overall; it's actually just shifting the numbers around. The Canadian telco stated that it is expanding its call centres in both Vancouver and Montreal. In fact, Bell said that, nationwide, it's growing its customer service headcount.

A spokesperson for the company told the Star that axed employees "will get appropriate severance." Even so, that does little to ease the blow of surprise Bell has dealt to its employees: "We didn't expect it all," one said. "Everyone thought we were okay."
