Bell launches Galaxy Tab service, a platform for mobile TV
Bell has joined Rogers in providing their customers with the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet computer today, the company announced.
Perhaps the most notable point about Bell’s launch of the Tab is that Bell is using the device to provide direct access to live and on-demand mobile TV content with Bell Tablet TV & Radio, and free access to more than 1,000 Bell Wi-Fi hotspots across Canada, such as the ones found at most Starbucks locations. Mobile TV is available for $10 per month for 10 hours of viewing, including all data charges. Clients can also access commercial-free radio for $8 per month.
“With access to the best Mobile TV news, sports and entertainment content on Canada’s Best Network, the Samsung Galaxy Tab offers Bell Mobility clients a premium mobile entertainment experience in a very portable package,” said Adel Bazerghi, Bell Mobility’s senior vice president of products in a press release.
The Galaxy Tab is getting fairly middling to pretty good reviews online, so it remains to be seen if Bell will be able to drum up enough interest in the device. I actually question why Bell would choose this device, with its diminutive seven inch screen over a larger device to launch its mobile TV service. Wouldn’t mobile TV be better on a larger screen?
