Bell officially launches Fibe TV in Toronto and Montréal, plots future domination of television

BellYesterday, BCE Inc. officially launched Fibe, its new Internet Protocol TV service, at the company's Toronto International Film Festival headquarters.

It's been a long-developed project, and expensive too, and this initial launch reaches only 500,000 homes between Toronto and Montréal, but Bell's planning is long-term. Kevin Crull, BCE's president for residential services, said that he considers Bell "more of an entertainment company than a straight communications company," according to The Globe and Mail, which paves the way for Bell TV's future.

So what is Bell TV's future? By mid-2011, their aim is for Fibe to hit 1 million homes. By 2015? Bell wants to dominate the internet TV market.

I suppose it's possible, but Kevin himself says it best: “It's a massively competitive business." And 5 years in this day and age is an eternity, so who knows.
