Bell: We Will No Longer Throttle Consumers' Internet
Bell has officially stated that it will no longer throttle the internet speeds of its users.
The Canadian telco said that increased network capacity, combined with the new usage-based billing practices, have allowed the company to cease the practise. The act of throttling, or slowing down internet speeds to well-below advertised and paid-for speeds without notifying users, has long been deemed a very direct violation of net neutrality principles. The company says that a small minority of users account for a majority of bandwidth usage and reducing their speeds is a net benefit to all consumers. However, most customers argue that they want what they pay for and silent throttling is a shady tactic.
Bell will continue throttling until March 1st. Recently, Rogers was deemed the worst internet throttler in the entire world.
