Best Buy launches UNboxing Day Contest

The act of Unboxing - sharing videos online where people open new electronics - has garnered a cult-like following around the globe and has even been labeled a new form of "geek porn".

The oldest video on YouTube using the term "unboxing" is the opening of a boxed Nokia E61 smartphone, uploaded on June 12, 2006.

With the launch of our first annual Advent Calendar promotion giving away 24 prizes over 24 days this month, we were excited to read that Best Buy are promoting the unboxing trend with their first-ever UNboxing Day Facebook contest, giving Canadians another reason to capture the excitement of unwrapping their newest tech toy.

The two videos submitting to Best Buy's UNboxing Day Contest that receive the most votes will each win a $2,500 Best Buy gift card. With the spirit of giving in the air, Best Buy will randomly award an additional three $150 gift cards to Canadians who vote for a video. Videos can be uploaded until December 31, 2010, and visitors are able to submit one vote every day.

Be sure to keep an eye on upcoming Advent Calendar prizes on Techvibes. The folks from Best Buy will be participating and their giveaway later this month will be "out of this world". And you may even have time to video capture your unboxing in time to enter their Facebook contest before it closes on December 31st.
