BlackBerry PlayBook to include pre-installed Music Store
Research in Motion (RIM) has turned to a British company to provide the music store on its soon to be launched BlackBerry PlayBook.
The 7digital Music Store will come pre-installed on the BlackBerry PlayBook and give PlayBook users access to 7digital's catalogue of over 13 million high quality MP3s. PlayBook users will be able to search for tracks, albums and artists and preview tracks before making a purchase. Users can also discover new music through 7digital's recommendation technology.
Prices for PlayBook users will match the prices on 7digital.com with individual tracks and albums priced in a customer's local currency.
The deal is an attempt by RIM to prove that it has the software and services to match the iPad ahead of the PlayBook’s launch in Canada on April 10th. 7digital is already the largest music store on the BlackBerry platform and existing customers of the service on any platform will be able to synchronize their music to the PlayBook.
Although the digital music market is still dominated by Apple's iTunes, 7digital’s technology and library enable competitors like RIM to provide similar services.
The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet running the 7digital Music Store application will be previewed this week at the South by South West (SXSW) conference in Austin, Texas.
