BlackBerry to Launch BBM for Windows Phone Very Soon

BlackBerry's homemade instant messaging service, even after more than a decade, remains one of its core features. Last year the Canadian company made waves by launching BBM on competing platforms for the first time.

BBM's presence on Apple's iOS and Google's Android spurred tens of millions of new downloads. Its imminent launch on Windows Phone isn't apt to have the same impact, but BlackBerry is going for it anyway as the Waterloo-based smartphone maker pushes to make BBM the top cross-platform messaging app on the market today.

“BBM continues to grow in popularity as millions of people use our mobile platform for chatting and connecting with friends or colleagues, and we are very excited that we will soon welcome Windows Phone users to the BBM community,” John Sims, in charge of BBM for BlackBerry, said back in February at a mobile tech trade show in Barcelona.

Currently BBM for Windows Phone is in private beta, which suggests we can expect a public launch within the next month or so. However, we do recall the iOS and Android versions being delayed multiple times, so Windows users won't be expected to hold their breath.
