Not sure whether to cheer or fume. After covering Olympic Games and working in new media in my beloved hometown, i was really hoping for more imagination and participation from VANOC and IOC for Vancouver 2010. Truly, the adherence to traditional models of reporting is a hugely-missed opportunity - both economically and culturally.
The True North Media House campaign will hopefully extend a bridge to Sochi 2014. I hope to share any/everything the other volunteers and I learn with Alexander and grassroots mediamakers/publishers everywhere.
I feel by encouraging citizen storytelling about world events, we create a deeper understanding of who we all are together.
This is a wonderful idea! I hope that the SochiReporters uncover the atrocities that are currently happening to the citizens of Sochi and to the environment. Or maybe they will uncover the truth to the history of Sochi, the land of Circassian genocide. It is wonderful that Russia decided to hold their games on the graveyards of Circassian ancestors.
Also, don't forget about the indigenous people of Vancouver. It's a shame that they are having their rights trampled on. Make sure you guys get that on tape too. This will most surely create a deeper understanding of who we are together. :)
