by Knowlton Thomas | Research

It's a longstanding tradition to hit the malls on Boxing Day, as if we all didn't get enough presents on Christmas.

But according to a new survey, Canadians are finding this year that the pre-Christmas deals are just as hot as Boxing Day blowouts past.

Data from suggests that 63% of Canadians find pre-Christmas deals "to be just as good as Boxing Day or better, and that 70 % of Canadians think Boxing Day deals are "overrated." Regardless, 56% still plan to shop on Boxing Day this season.

"It's becoming more common for retailers to offer pre-Christmas deals to keep sales strong throughout the entire holiday season," explains Angela Self, cofounder of Smart Cookies.

Of those surveyed who plan to shop on Boxing Day, 45% plan to spend $100 or less; 31% will be shopping for apparel while 27% will be looking to buy electronics; and 50% of shoppers plan to spend the same or less than last year.
