Calgary-born app Poynt hits 10 million user milestone
Calgary-based Poynt, a mobile app launched in June 2008, announed today that it has been downloaded and used on over 10 million mobile devices.
Poynt's 10 millionth unique user marks a milestone for the company, representing 162% growth in unique users over the past year. Poynt reached the 1 million unique user milestone in September 2009 and has experienced 900% growth in the past two years, including the addition of 1.5 million new users since July 2011.
"Our position in the mobile application space has become increasingly stronger," said Andrew Osis, President & CEO, Poynt Corp. "Ten million users and growing is key to Poynt's expanding the number of advertisers and strengthening the App's mobile commerce offerings like 'daily deals' and mobile couponing. As Poynt becomes available across more geographies and devices, we anticipate a significant acceleration in user numbers and associated revenues. More users drive more search queries which has the ability to broaden our revenue stream," added Osis. "User queries may be monetized in a variety of ways, including ticket purchases within the App and highly targeted contextual and location-based advertisements."
Poynt is available as a free download for users in several countries and across all major platforms, including RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and Microsoft's Windows Phone.
