Cool Canadian Crowdfunding Campaigns You May Want to Fund This Week

It’s that time of the week when we look at what creative ideas Canadians are raising money to support.

Check out these Canadian crowdfunding picks-of-the-week:

Signul: The world’s first personal beacon system

Beacons are everywhere (or at least they will be soon) but they’re still not really a consumer-focused technology. Vancouver’s IoT Design Shop wants to change that.

They say their Signul personal beacon system can “launch Apps, open websites, send messages, tweet, or post to Facebook,” whenever a specific user enters the beacon’s zone. The idea is that it automate tasks users currently have to do manually on their phones. It could mean turning on the lights when a user enters starts walking up their front steps or texting their friends when they leave work.

The campaign met its fundraising goal of $25,000 within five days of launching and are now aiming for their stretch goal of $50,000. It they reach that, they’ll make a Signul SDK. A $50 contribution gets backers a Signul beacon.

Pawly: Play with your pet anywhere anytime

Even the most attentive pet owner can’t always be there when they want to. Between work and everything else, a lot busy pet owners still feel guilty.

But a Toronto-based group is trying to change that with Pawly, a small robot that allows users to play with their pets remotely. The robot also allows user to talk to their pets and watch them on their Android or iOS devices.

A $199 contribution gets a Pawly, with larger backers getting more advanced devices. So far the campaign has raised over $18,000. Still short of its $80,000 goal but there’s still 35 days to go.
