Canadian Election more popular than Wills & Kate on Twitter?

There has been much debate about whether this is a social media election.

Furthermore, given the flurry of recent elections in Canada – does anyone really care? The Meltwater Group decided to investigate – from a digital perspective, measuring the volume of social media mentions around the election, as compared to this week's hottest topic - the Royal Wedding - and Canada's biggest Internet sensation Justin Bieber.

Despite all the hype around the upcoming nuptials of Wills and Kate – the election comes out the clear winner.

The Meltwater Group measured social media mentions from the beginning of the election to mid-last week to come up with these numbers.

These results suggest that Canadians are truly engaged in this election and that social media isn’t just a domain for pop culture, but a place where serious issues are being discussed.
