Canadian New Media Awards Finalist Profiles: Excellence in Children's

Posted by Greg Andrews

The Canadian New Media Awards take place November 18, 2008, as part of the nextMEDIA conference. In the lead up to this event, I'm going to profile the categories and finalists, one per day. Today's category is Excellence in Children's.

Flip Boom Classic is a children's animation program in the doodling style of a flip book. Availible for Mac or Windows, it works with USB drawing tablets. Animations can be exported to an iPod or the Web. Flip Boom is made by Toon Boom Animation of Montreal.

TVO Kids is the web companion for the various children's series on TVO, a public educational media organization in Ontario. It features games, video content, polls, contests, and show information. The site was done in-house by TVO in Toronto.

Spiderman: Friend or Foe is an action/adventure video game based on the popular comic/movie/cartoon. It's kid-friendly with an E10+ rating and is availible for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, and Windows PCs. It has a coop multiplayer mode, so friends can play co-operatively instead of just competitively. Spiderman: Friend or Foe was done by Next Level Games of Vancouver.
