As the holiday shopping season heats up, there’s a great Canadian search engine out there not named Google to find the products you’re looking for locally and more effectively.

Vancouver-based Wishpond, which launched in mid-2010 has imported 17 million products from more than 3,500 retailers that comes from many diverse sources like Quickbooks, POS systems, Shopify, and Google Merchant Centre using their RetailConnect platform.

Wishpond is witnessing 50% month-over-month traffic growth traffic, now ranking 4,790th in Canada and 123,000 globally according to Alexa.com.

The company says that the retailers are from mom and pop locations to multi-national ones while continuing to index more than 2 million products a month. Wishpond’s Director of Marketing Duncan Blair says: “We are addressing the fact that the majority of people are using the Internet as a tool for product research, retailer discovery, and price comparison of products, but still completing the purchase in-store at a local retailer”.

The strongest growth in searches were conducted on smartphones , with mild growth in tablets as Wishpond continues to prove that customers often search for products while on the go or in retail stores themselves using their mobile devices.

They have also launched solutions that help retailers market their store and product inventory on social networks like Facebook. GoSocial Store allows retailers to quickly create a Facebook store and more.

The store is automatically synced with existing inventory, so that social and web media teams don’t have to spend time updating each commerce channel.

Here’s an example from Skymall, a catalogue and online retailer that recently launched a Facebook store through Wishpond’s platform.

Wishpond will have even more to announce in the New Year.
