Canadian Tech Communities alive and kicking according to Meetup stats

by Rob Lewis | Startups

Meetup CEO Scott Heiferman recently announced that the Bay area tech Meetup groups had more RSVPs in 2011 than those in any other city.

New York City had the second-most members of Meetup tech group RSVPers, followed by London, Washington D.C. and Chicago. The fastest-growing tech scene on Meetup, based on RSVPs, was Hong Kong, followed by Melbourne, Detroit and Paris.

But how did Canadian cities fare? Very well actually.

Vancouver made the Top 10 list for Tech Meetup Cities coming in at #8 and Toronto was the 7th Fastest Growing Tech Community.

These rankings, of course, are heavily dependent upon Meetup adoption and not a direct indicator of startup scene size.
