Vancouver's Canpages Inc. announced last month that they had an agreement to acquire the assets of ZipLocal.ca from JLA Ventures.
The acquisition of the online business search directory will be finalized this month and see Canpages' advertiser base grow by more than 2,300 new customers and expand its reach to the 695,000 unique visitors who conduct more than 3.2 million searches on the ZipLocal.ca website each month.
As Greg Sterling points out, we've got a serious battle for local traffic underway with Canpages mounting a charge for it's larger rival Yellowpages.ca. But don't forget about Yelp, Transcontinental's well-funded Weblocal.ca, and of course the search engines which aren't going away anytime soon.
The agreement to acquire ZipLocal.ca represents the second major directory acquisition for the company in less than six months - they acquired EXZ Finder Phonebooks in February.
