CEOs in Residence give free guidance to tomorrow's entrepreneurs

Three West Coast CEOs are putting their own corporate pursuits on the backburner for a while and are using their years of experience to guide the next generation of B.C. executives.

They’ve joined the BCTIA’s Centre4Growth as “CEOs in Residence” to give the tech entrepreneurs of tomorrow guidance for their futures. Through the Centre4Growth, up-and-coming tech businesspeople will have access to CEOs with real experience and insights about B.C.'s technology sector. Consultants and advisors don’t often come cheap, so having access to these services for free can be a huge boon to anyone running a start-up.

So who are these CEOs? A press release from the BCTIA says this about them:

Rob Bennett [pictured], CEO in Residence (Victoria) has extensive knowledge of creating and growing technology firms within BC gained from over 30 years of experience working in and with a variety of companies. Rob has direct experience in all aspects of company growth including venture financing and becoming publicly listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. In addition to acting as VIATeC’s Business Coach, Rob also co-chairs the VIATeC Grow Op panel, providing coaching and assistance to a wide variety of technology companies on a broad range of topics and opportunities.

Neil McDonnell, CEO in Residence (Vancouver) brings 25 years of experience with BC’s high technology companies including hardware, software and system applications. His previous senior management roles include CEO, COO and VP of Sales and Marketing at TeraSpan Networks, Intrinsyc Software and others. An experienced mentor and advisor, Mr. McDonnell has served on several private and public boards including BCLC and is currently Chair of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee.

Bill Tam, CEO in Residence (Vancouver) is a strategic marketing visionary and has been a driving force in new telecom and wireless ventures over the past 18 years. Most recently the President & CEO of EQO Communications, Bill has been actively involved in guiding the success of entrepreneurial companies as an executive, investor and board member. Bill was a founding executive and Chief Marketing Officer at MetroNet Communications, the first and largest CLEC in Canada. Bill has also held senior executive positions at AT&T Canada, Rogers Communications, Jones Cable, Infowave Software and Bell Canada. Mr. Tam is currently the Chairman of the Board at Colligo Networks and an advisor of Constructive Media and SpringBank TechVentures.

McDonnell and Tam will be working out of BCTIA’s head office in Vancouver, while Bennett will be working from the Vancouver Island Technology Park in Victoria. These CEOs in Residence are working on a part-time basis, and can be reached through the Centre4Growth’s website.
