CEOs of Vancouver's Nexterra and Pulse Energy get selected as 2011 Pivotal Leaders

Pivotal Investments today announced the Pivotal Leaders for 2011—men and women identified by their peers as the top prospective clean technology business leaders in the Northwest.

The Pivotal Leaders Network, which launched last year, uses a community-nomination and peer-selection process to identify the most promising C-level business leaders who are likely to lead successful clean technology companies in the region over the next three to five years—seeking to stimulate investment and expand resources and ultimately help grow a sustainable economy in the Northwest.

The 2011 Pivotal Leaders will have opportunities throughout the year to connect with successful entrepreneurs, business and legal experts, potential investors and other resources to support their growth and success.

Two Canadian CEOs managed to make this year's list, both of Vancouver companies. The first is Jonathan Rhone of Nexterra, and the second is David Helliwell of Pulse Energy.

“This is the second year of Pivotal Leaders and once again we have been extremely impressed with the high caliber of individuals appearing on this year’s list,” said Gregg Semler, Managing Director of Pivotal Investments. “We believe the best way to help our economy grow is to cultivate strong leadership in our region’s critically important clean technology sector. There is no shortage of great, cleantech business ideas in the Northwest, but it will take experienced, qualified C-level leaders at the helm of these companies to help them take their innovations to the next level, to attract capital investment and create the jobs our region needs,” Semler added.

“The Pivotal Leaders represent the Northwest’s bright future in cleantech industries,” said Peter Wall, senior manager at Ernst & Young. “Creating an environment where these leaders can collaborate, network and gain access to resources will have a powerful multiplier effect in growing the sustainable economy of our region.”

“As we embark on the second year of Pivotal Leaders, we see even more opportunity for clean technology leaders to build on our region’s inherent strengths and enhance our competitiveness nationally and globally,” said Brent Bullock, partner at Perkins Coie. “We are pleased to continue supporting this opportunity for new ideas, people and strategies that will drive a stronger, more sustainable future.”

“The growth of the Pivotal Leaders Network is truly an investment in our region’s most important resources – our people,” said Patrick Quinton, executive director for the Portland Development Commission. “It not only helps encourage cleantech innovation, it also supports and elevates the business leaders who have the skills and savvy to bring those innovative ideas to fruition, creating jobs and building the Northwest economy.”
