CIBC adds BlackBerry to its Mobile Banking options

CIBC continued its leadership role in mobile banking today by introducing a BlackBerry optimized mobile version to go along with its previously launched iPhone App.

According to their launch press release today, the CIBC Mobile Banking App for iPhone launched in February surpassed 100,000 downloads in just over one month following launch and has seen over 1 Million client logins to CIBC Mobile Banking since its introduction.

"The overwhelming response we have received from our clients using CIBC's Mobile Banking App for iPhone or accessing our mobile banking services through their BlackBerry demonstrates there is a pent up need and demand for these services in Canada," said Christina Kramer, Executive Vice-President, Distribution Services, CIBC Retail Markets. "Our clients are clearly showing through their behaviour that mobile banking is very important to them, and has enhanced their overall banking experience."

It's great that CIBC has optimized the site for the BlackBerry experience, but how come no BlackBerry App. This leaves the door wide open for Scotiabank to expand into mobile banking as per their announcement today and be the first Canadian bank with a BlackBerry App.

Update: It turns out we were wrong and ING Direct Canada already has a BlackBerry App. Sorry ING!
