Desire2Learn and TribeHR Win Business of the Year Honours

Two of Kitchener-Waterloo’s most talked about technology companies won big Thursday night at the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards.

Each won for Business of the Year in front of packed crowd of business professionals from across Waterloo Region.

Desire2Learn, based out of the Tannery in downtown Kitchener, won for Business of the Year (Over 20 Employees). Desire2Learn was up against stiff competition such as fellow tech firm Xylotek Solutions, RBC Royal Bank, and accounting firm KPMG LLP.

Desire2Learn has developed and grown in Waterloo Region into an influential eLearning company with numerous awards to their credit. Since 1999 Desire2Learn has grown to 380 employees with an expectation of hiring another 200 by the end of 2012 after securing a whole new floor at the Tannery building that houses numerous other tech startups.

Waterloo-based TribeHR won their Business of the Year honours in the 20 Employees and Under category. In just the last few years TribeHR has developed a unique Human Resources software that has shaken up the Human Resources industry in countless ways. Having also been nominated in the First Annual Canadian Startup Awards presented by KPMG for the Best Overall Startup of 2011, TribeHR is clearly heading in a strong direction not only in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, but nationally and internationally as well.
