Welcome to the BC App of the Week series presented by DigiBC. DigiBC's mission is to promote, support and accelerate the growth, sustainability and competitiveness of BC's digital media and wireless industry and they have partnered with Techvibes to highlight some of British Columbia's best apps.

This week's featured app is The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross by Gibson, BC's Moving Tales. The $6.99 iPad $6.99 app is an e-book about "the journey of a poor pedlar woman who, guided by the shifting line between the real and the unreal, discovers a surprising and wonderful treasure."

Founder Matthew Talbot-Kelly started Moving Tales to expand and explore storytelling on the iPad platform.

"Not just any stories, but tales with rich legacies, many of which have been told for millennia. We are taking these stories for a walk – rephrasing and reframing them in a way that is compelling and appropriate to this new platform. Although they have aspects of books, animated films, storytelling and interactive media, the result is greater than the sum of its parts. Our very bold intention is to develop the first great iPad storybook app.”

The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross was written by Jacqueline O Rogers and is told almost as if it's an animated film, with voice over and sound affects optionally accompanying the animation. The words are also present allowing you to read the text without sound if you prefer.
