Drupal Specialist - Canada Wide Media Limited

Canada Wide Media Limited is looking for an experienced Drupal developer to join its dynamic Digital Media division on a full-time, permanent basis. As the largest independent publisher in Western Canada, Canada Wide Media has spent the last 18 months growing its digital operations, and we would love to welcome another creative, smart, people-savvy developer to our growing team.

We are looking to add another site to our Drupal multi-site content management system (CMS), and our new Web Developer would be a key player in making that happen, helping to plan the site technically as well as support, maintain, and evolve the site after launch. Our successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work on and evolve our current suite of five sites (BCBusinessOnline, GranvilleOnline, TVWeekOnline, GardenWiseOnline, and Canadawide).

The Web Developer will be responsible for:

• Contributing to planning, development, release and maintenance of Canada Wide’s digital sites and products
• Serving as project lead for assigned sites and products
• Creating, maintaining, installing, modifying and testing modules and themes, and extending our Drupal-based content management system where necessary
• Designing and creating custom modules that integrate into our Drupal 5 based CMS following Drupal’s API
• Resolving Drupal configuration issue
• Managing day-to-day operations and making improvements to performance of assigned sites and products • Making recommendations for ongoing improvements to development workflow
• Participating in design and user interface architecture, and producing technical plans
• Helping to drive development direction, design, architecture
• Working with internal teams and IT to support digital media business

Required Skills and Experience

• Computer Science Degree
• At least five years experience developing online applications and three years experience developing and managing Content Management Systems
• High-level problem-solving skills, advanced communication and teamwork skills
• Strong command of PHP 5, SQL, HTML, CSS, XHTML, Javascript
• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop CS, Macromedia Flash 8 Pro, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Audition
• Comfort with Mac and PC environments
• Experience with Apache
• Knowledge of the Drupal 5 or 6 API and the willingness to become a Drupal expert
• Experience in integrating design into Drupal themes
• Strong technical expertise in web development and other digital technologies
• Understanding of technical documentation, code reviews, industry/coding standards, architecture and system design
• Adherence to web standards and object-oriented programming
• In-depth knowledge of existing web trends and technologies including Web 2.0 apps and features
• Willingness to work on and lead technical projects with contractors
• Experience with ecommerce applications
• Knowledge of online multimedia content publishing and distribution is desired
• Strong English language skills
• Professional, reliable and precise
