In the light of the international climate change talks happening in Copenhagen I thought it would be timely to highlight a local company that has created a new and innovative product which promises to impact the environment in a positive way.

In 2004, Broadplay entered the digital agency space. Broadplay’s core objective is to drive online sales for their clients. Based on their clients marketing goals, their team of professionals deploys an effective Digital Marketing Strategy, systematically measuring and analyzing the progress, performance and end-results.

However, as it grew and developed they began focusing more on the emerging mobile marketing industry. Recently, they launched EcoCardz.

bpEcoCardz is an application that Broadplay conceptualized would not only be a useful business tool, but an environmentally friendly product offering. One of the overall benefits of mobile marketing in general is a reduction in paper use and this is something that Broadplay supports.

Here's how it works: The application allows 136 characters (Twitter-friendly) of the most important text based contact information on your business card to be delivered to any cellphone...on demand. The EcoCardz uses the short-code 123411. This short-code allows all Canadian cell phones to interact with the service anytime/anywhere.

In regards to the environmental impact EcoCardz bypasses the need to order traditional paper business cards that get tossed out more than they get stored and used. And when a job change occurs the user can simply log on to the website and change their contact details rather than order new cards.

Presently, the EcoCardz application is available as a text messaging service. However, as smartphone penetration climbs higher it may also be used as a gateway to further mobile web applications.
