The Canadian Financing Forumtook place today at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver and was a great success. Event organizers Kathy Standeven and Dave Thomas hosted the event along with sponsors Invest British Columbia, Lawson Lundell, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Thirty-two Information Technology and Cleantech companies had 15 minutes each to pitch their business plans to an eager audience of VCs from across Canada as well as Seattle, Palo Alto, and Menlo Park. The lunch menu featured four update presentations from some very successful BC companies. John Livingston of Absolute Software took us through their company valuation roller-coaster, Abebook's Hannes Blum suggested that we all skip Amazon in favor of AbeBooks, Ken Fielding of Delta-Q Technologies praised the invention of the electric drive motor, and Vision Critical's Jason Smith offered up a solution for dealing with your Boss' next bad idea. Financing Forum delegates had an opportunity at the end of the day to vote for the Forum Favourite awards - the companies from each sector that they felt was most deserving of funding. Considering the caliber of the VC-heavy audience, these awards should translate into raising capital. Contigo Systems picked up the award for Information Technology, Nxtgen Emission Controls for Cleantech, and the Early Stage Award went to Something Simpler's Ian Bell. Related Posts:
