Firesale Continues in 2012: You Can Now Buy a $700 BlackBerry PlayBook for Only $300
Last year, RIM went nuts with BlackBerry PlayBook sales, offering its 16 GB model for as little as $199 (and $99 to employees!). However, the 64 GB model never went below $399.
Today Research In Motion has done two things. First, its "extended" these so-called "limited time" offers by an entire month, until February 4th. Second, its dropped the 64 GB PlayBook to a new low: $299, or more than half off its original $700 retail price.
The question is, how can RIM ever sell these devices at full price again? Who will pay $500 for a 16 GB device after it was available for $200 for months? RIM's tablet firesale has already incurred $500 million in losses and the devices are still selling poorly.
