Flowplay, a Seattle-based casual gaming site currently developing for-pay community-based environments for the 12 to 17 year old demographic, has just raised $3.7 million in first round investment, according to a recent post in PaidContent. FlowPlay plans to charge users $5.99 a month to access casual games which also all contain a site-wide role playing feature. Intel Capital and Ambient Sound, the Estonian VC firm started by some of Skype's founding engineers, are the lead investors in the venture, which started with just $500,000 of seed funding in early 2007. FlowPlay's CEO, Derrick Morton, was formerly the general manager of the mobile games division of RealNetworks.
FlowPlay was awarded the "Best Funding Pitch" at the WSA Investment Forum last year, and has been featured in both the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
