Vancouver's Followformation unveiled their unofficial tool to help Twitter users find and follow top Olympic “Tweeters.”
Followformation is a tool for Twitter users who want to follow the most influential people in the areas of their interest and co-founder Brian Wong is confident that with a few billion people expected to tune in to the 2010 Winter Games, a few of those will be looking for the top Olympic Tweeters.
Followformation is designed to simplify life for Twitter users – especially those who are new to social media. Users enter their Twitter login information, select a category such as the new "Olympians" or "Free Venues" lists and decide how many of the top Tweeters they want to follow, and click ‘follow.’
While Followformation's list is most definitely not officially endorsed by the Olympics, Wong's press release today included a sweet quote from the Honourable Mary McNeil, BC's Minister of State for the Olympics about the role of social media.
“While the 2010 Olympic Winter Games are taking place in Vancouver and Whistler, they belong to the world,” said the Honourable Mary McNeil, British Columbia’s Minister of State for the Olympics. “Social media is the perfect way to share the excitement, and it’s great to see a Vancouver company helping to make the Olympics even more accessible. You really don’t need a ticket to be part of the Games.” Minister McNeil represents British Columbia’s youngest constituency, Vancouver-False Creek. Her constituency includes the Yaletown neighborhood, which is home to many new media companies.
