Montreal startup ooomf announced this morning that they have raised $500K in seed funding and are launching their public beta.
The financing round was led by Montreal-based early stage seed fund Real Ventures and included BDC Venture Capital and a number of angel investors. ooomf is a graduate of FounderFuel's Spring 2012 cohort.
ooomf is a mobile app discovery platform that helps developers market their applications and allows users to discover and participate in the creation of mobile apps, whether the app is just an idea, coming soon, or already in the App Store.
“Because there's over 600,000 apps it can be so frustrating unless you know exactly what you're looking for” said Mikael Cho, Co-Founder and CEO of ooomf.
Cho continues, “It's just browsing icons and ratings, there's no magic. But if you thought this was bad for someone trying to find an app, it's far worse for someone trying to sell one.”
ooomf offers a suite of engagement and storytelling tools to help developers connect with users, who then have the opportunity to participate in an app’s story: from voting on an icon design, to helping craft its branding or messaging.
“We’ve already seen it with websites like Kickstarter. What really captivates end users is that they to can be a part of a project’s story,” said Cho, “ooomf creates a desire for end users to identify and support their favorite app makers.”
