Startups from Across Canada Pitch at GrowLab's Demo Day in Vancouver

Posted by Knowlton Thomas

Last night, Vancouver accelerator GrowLab hosted its Demo Day for the Winter 2012 cohort.

In addition to the four local companies that participated in GrowLab's three-month program, three startups from other Canadian accelerators gave three-minute pitches to a charged audience: OOHLALA from Founder Fuel, WillPwn4Food from Hyperdrive, and Paint My Cat from Launch Academy.

Following a keynote titled "Rise of the Angels" by 500 Startups' Paul Singh, the four GrowLab startups presented. They were as follows:

• ePACT, a LinkedIn for emergency networks tracking to 2.5 million users by end of year one that has already raised $800,000 and is looking to raise $2 million (ePACT's Christine Sommers pictured).

• Procurify, a spend management solution for organizations of all sizes that has secured a $400,000 investment from Mark Cuban.

• SpaceList, an MLS for commercial real estate that is seeking angel funding to capitalize on an untapped market.

• KarmaHire, an optimized hiring platform that creates high-converting recruiting pages in minutes.

“GrowLab held our feet to the fire. It upped the ante for us," ePACT's CEO, Christine Sommers, said. "They made us think big, and pushed the message: go hard or go home.”

Stay tuned to hear more from these accelerator graduates on Techvibes as they bravely venture into the real world.
