FreelanceCamp Comes to Vancouver

After the tremendous success of FreelanceCamps abroad, Canada will have its own FreelanceCamp in Vancouver. With the steady growth of the freelance market, this unconference style event will allow independent workers to connect, share knowledge, and become better freelancers.

FreelanceCamp Vancouver will be held on May 29th at The Network Hub – a coworking space located in downtown Vancouver. The event is organized by five entrepreneurs: Natalie Sisson – founder of Womanz World, Cathy Browne – social media strategist, Amanda Farough – founder of violetminded Design, Minna Van – co-founder of Atomic Media and The Network Hub, and Cecilia Lu – co-founder of Kiwano Marketing.

Unlike a typical conference, FreelanceCamp’s set up is much more open with an agenda that participants make up on the day of the event. This “unconference” will include workshops in which participants suggest the topics to be covered, which is then voted on by the attendees at the start of the event.

Some possible topics:

  • Task and Time Management tools
  • Marketing and Social Media tools
  • Coworking
  • Working remotely
  • Negotiating contracts
  • Business Ethics
  • Intellectual Property
  • How to set up a Consultancy

One of the appeals of FreelanceCamp is it acts as a platform to give a voice to a variety of independent workers with a range of experience and expertise. So, with collaboration, discussion and learning encouraged right from the start, everyone benefits from the large group of assembled talents. The networking and potential for new opportunities is also a great plus for many different businesses.

FreelanceCamp Vancouver is calling out to all independent consultants, entrepreneurs, designers, developers, bloggers, marketers, photographers, writers, artists, musicians, accountants, financial advisors, etc. - ALL freelancers to join each other for this event on May 29th. As the motto of the event states, “In Business For Yourself, Not By Yourself”.
