Freshbooks hires new Chief Marketing Officer

In what promises to be some great live coverage of the 2011 Mesh Conference at the Allstream Centre in Toronto, Matt Hartley of the National Post reported this morning that Freshbook founder Mike McDerment has hired fellow Mesh Conference organizer Stuart MacDonald to be the company's new Chief Marketing Officer.

MacDonald is the former head of Expedia.ca and the founder and chief executive of TripHarbour.ca. In his new role MacDonald will be responsible for marketing, sales, support and revenue.

“For me it sounds like the early days of e-commerce, frankly,” Mr. MacDonald said in an interview.

“There’s an entire category out there called online billing that people don’t know much about. The idea that you should be able to do an invoice and get paid over the Internet just makes tons of sense, and Freshbooks is in the early stages of helping to create that category.”

After doing some consulting work for Freshbooks in the fall at the request of co-founder and chief executive Mike McDerment, Mr. MacDonald said the opportunity to take what is already a global business to the next level was too much to pass up.

MacDonald and McDerment are two of the five co-founders of the Mesh technology conference in Toronto.
